In 2022 and 2023, Zero Waste Germany continued to develop, both in its positioning as an environmental association promoting zero waste and in its internal organisation.
Supporting cities like Cologne and Munich to adopt the Zero Waste City approach was at the heart of our work with the support of Zero Waste Europe. In November 2022, we offered a first Zero Waste City seminar for NGO members in Berlin and took part in the first Zero Waste City certification in Germany, awarded in February 2023 to the city of Kiel.
Our commitment also manifested itself at a political level through our actions in the Exit Plastik and Break Free from Plastik alliances, which included co-developing and signing positions on legislative proposals (see our blog page) as well as preparing Exit PlastiK meetings with members of the government. We also played an expert role in the NRW circular cities scientific project.
Finally, in the second half of 2023, we opened up access to our plenary sessions by inviting a more diverse audience and welcoming speakers on a variety of topics such as the introduction of a packaging tax in Tüningen, „sustainable kindergartens“ or the EU Packaging & Packaging Waste Regulation . We were also pleased to introduce a Newsletter which, among other things, highlights our members‘ actions and projects.
